A Day in the Life of a WHO Volunteer

Every week, Wanna Tun goes to visit his friend and fellow volunteer Sung Soe Sang before they head out to bring supplies and groceries to families living close by. Sang’s family is Christian and from Dak Lak, a city in the central region of Vietnam. They fled Vietnam 11 years ago due to religious conflicts, and have been living in a close-knit community in Bangkok ever since. The community is home to many other migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. Sang and his family had themselves received aid and support from World Vision when they first arrived. When the pandemic broke out, Sang offered to give back by becoming a Covid-response volunteer himself, distributing relief to other families struggling to make ends meet and helping to translate between Thai and Vietnamese.

This photo essay was produced for WHO focusing on a CSO-partnered programme with World Vision on the importance of migrant volunteerism in Thai Covid-19 response efforts.
